How to compare two motherboards
Five things decide a motherboard, and they are worth checking in this order: CPU socket (an AM5 board will not take an LGA1851 chip, so this rules boards in or out before anything else), chipset tier, size, power delivery and the ports you get. Pick two boards above and every one of those is laid out row by row, with the differences separated from the things both boards share.
Power delivery is the hardest of these to pin down, because vendors describe it with marketing names rather than publishing a number. We work it out from the two things that actually limit a board: how much current its power stages can carry, which follows from the phase count, the class of stage fitted and how much heatsink covers them, and how much its CPU power connectors can pass. The lower of the two is what we publish, and on about half the boards we track it is the power stages rather than the connectors.
Watts alone are hard to read, because the same figure means different things on different platforms. A board wired for 576 W has two and a half times what the hungriest AM5 chip pulls, but only a little under twice what a Core i9-14900K wants. So every board also carries how it compares to the most demanding processor its own socket takes: Limited means it is not wired to feed that chip at full tilt, Sufficient means it is, without much to spare, and Strong and Overbuilt mean the board will never be what holds the processor back. It is a rating of what the board is built to deliver rather than a measurement of what it sustains on a bench, so read it as headroom.
The rest is a question of what you plug in: how many M.2 slots and which of them are PCIe 5.0, how many DIMM slots and how fast the memory can run, the Wi-Fi generation, the wired network speed, and the rear USB layout. Two boards on the same chipset usually deliver identical CPU performance, so this is where the money actually goes.
