How to compare two power supplies
Start from the thing that makes this different from comparing a processor or a graphics card: there is no performance to compare. Every 850 W unit delivers 850 W. Once a unit has enough wattage for your build, the question stops being how fast it is and becomes how well it is built, how long it will last, how it behaves when a graphics card spikes, and whether you can hear it.
So five things decide it, roughly in this order: wattage (a threshold, not a scale: enough is enough), form factor (decided by your case, not by preference), the ATX standard and connectors (ATX 3.x units are built to ride out the power spikes a modern card produces, and the 12V-2x6 cable is what plugs into one), the efficiency grade, and noise. Pick two units above and every one of those is laid out row by row.
Noise is the row worth dwelling on, because it is the one most listings leave out entirely. A fan size tells you very little on its own. Where a unit has been through an independent lab we show its measured grade instead, which is a real acoustic measurement across the load range rather than a claim from the box. Not every unit has been tested, and an untested unit shows as unmeasured rather than as quiet.
Each unit also carries a quality score out of 100, built from the efficiency grade, the ATX standard and 12V-2x6 support, measured noise, warranty length, the internal platform and modularity. Divide it by the price and you get the value ranking that orders the main list. It comes with a confidence indicator, because a factor we hold no value for scores zero, and you should know when a low score means unverified rather than bad.
